About the Ridge to Blazing Ridge Race

tHE RACE STARTS AT THE REDBUD PAVILION BY THE BMX TRACK ON TRANQUILITY ROAD. tHE RUN STARTS AT 7:00 am. ALL RUNNERS ARE REQUIRED TO CARRY WATER. THIS ONE IS TOUGH!

ALL RUNNERS MUST CARRY WATER AT ALL TIMES DURING THE RACE. The course is difficult with several long, steep climbs. The fastest 10 runners in 2021 needed almost 2 hours to finish the ten mile race. The times for everyone else ranged from 2 hours to 5 hours. Use that as a gauge as to how much water you will need.

If you ran Hotter 'N Hell, you got a little "taste" of the Blood Rock Course. Ridge to Blazing Ridge will provide the "First Course" of the Blood Rock races. This course was the original R2BR course we used up until about 5 years ago, with one exception. Originally, the course followed the Blue Trail. Now, runners will get to enjoy the “East Rim Trail.” You have not heard of that trail? This is one of the oldest trails in Oak Mountain State Park. Originally, it followed the east rim of Double Oak Mountain from Kings Chair to the Peavine Falls Overlook Pavilion. It was basically abandoned when the Blue Trail was created. It has amazing views of Dunnavant Valley for the 3 miles that are runnable today.

This race is harder than the previous two races and it will probably be very hot. Runners MUST carry water at all times during the race. NO EXCEPTIONS!! For best results, I suggest drinking Tailwind in the place of water. We supply Tailwind at both aid station along with plenty of water. The return trip from the Peavine Aid Station is very slow running. The East Rim Trail is relatively flat by OMSP standards but it is rugged. It’s almost impossible to keep a steady rhythm. You will spend a lot of time rock-hopping. REFILL your water bottles at the aid station. I also suggest carrying a water filter bottle. I have a Katadyn BeFree bottle I use all the time in my long training runs. The R2BR course is close to creeks on much of the course. It might just save your race.

Don't forget, the park charges $5 per person to enter Oak Mtn State Park. Credit cards are NOT accepted.
